TULUM, RIVIERA MAYA, MEXICO
Tulum's ruin is an ancient walled city perched on a rocky cliff above a beautiful beach. The area is not exactly private, with hordes of tourists visiting every day, but the wide stretch of white sand and mesmerising turquoise Caribbean waters more than compensate.
NAVAGIO BEACH, ZAKYNTHOS, GREECE
On the Greek island of Zakynthos, Navagio beach is a remote but stunningly beautiful sandy cove. It is also known as Shipwreck Beach because it is home to the wreck of a ship called Panagiotis, which is thought to have been a smuggler's ship. The area is known for its sheer limestone cliffs, white-sand beaches, and clear blue water, which draw thousands of tourists each year.
GRACE BAY, TURKS & CAICOS
The Turks and Caicos Islands are made up of 40 islands and cays, with Providenciales serving as the main tourist destination. Grace Bay, located on the northern shore, is a 19km (12 miles) paradise-perfect mix of sugary sand and clear water, surrounded by a coral reef system with excellent snorkelling and diving.
WHITEHAVEN BEACH, QUEENSLAND, AUSTRALIA
Whitehaven Beach is located in the heart of the Great Barrier Reef and is protected by the Whitsunday Islands National Park. The most famous beach in Australia stretches for 4.4 miles (7 kilometres) and is washed by swirls of turquoise, blue, and green water. The sand is made up of 98 per cent pure white silica, giving it a brilliant, nearly luminescent colour.
BAIA DO SANCHO, FERNANDO DE NORONHO, BRAZIL
Baio Do Sancho is located on the remote island of Fernando de Noronha, an active volcanic archipelago of 21 islands in the Atlantic Ocean about 220 miles (350 km) off the coast of northeastern Brazil. Emerald water and soft white sands are surrounded by vegetation-covered 250-foot-high (75-meter) cliffs.
LONG BEACH, VANCOUVER ISLAND, CANADA
It's not just tropical beaches that can leave you speechless with their awe-inspiring beauty. Long Beach, the longest sandy beach on Canada's Vancouver Island, is the best example, with breathtaking scenery and an unrivalled maritime wilderness.
MAYA BAY, KOH PHI PHI, THAILAND
Maya Bay is a breathtakingly beautiful, sheltered bay on Thailand's Koh Phi Phi island. It's easy to see why director Danny Boyle chose this beach for cult-favorite The Beach, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, with a ring of white sand surrounded by mangroves and towering limestone walls blanketed in dense foliage.
CAMPS BAY, CAPE TOWN, SOUTH AFRICA
Camps Bay has blinding white sand set against the majestic backdrop of the Twelve Apostles Mountain Range and Table Mountain. The water is a little cold due to Atlantic Ocean currents, but that will not distract you from the amazing surrounding scenery and world-famous sunsets.
POLIHALE BEACH, HAWAII, USA
Polihale is without a doubt the most breathtakingly beautiful beach in the Hawaiian archipelago. The beach is only accessible via a poorly marked dirt sugarcane road, so a four-wheel-drive vehicle is recommended (check with your rental car company for restrictions before heading out).
ANSE SOURCE D’ARGENT, SEYCHELLES
The blinding white sands of Anse Source d'Argent, one of the world's most photographed beaches, stretch across La Digue, one of the 115 islands that comprise this paradisiacal archipelago in the Indian Ocean.
